The Scituate Wind project began in 2005 when the Board of Selectman of the Town of Scituate appointed a Renewable Energy Committee. This Committee explored the opportunity to site a wind energy project in the Town. This research continued for 4 years and in 2009 the Town issued an RFP to select a partner to develop the project. From 2009-2011, the project was permitted and designed. In 2011, Scituate Wind received financing from Cambridge Savings Bank, a local bank. Construction commenced in late 2011. In January 2011, the Town was invited to sign one of the blades. Hundreds of residents came out in a snowstorm to participate. In March 2012, the turbine became operational. Scituate Wind, the Town of Scituate, its Energy Committee, and Sustainable Scituate hosted an Earth Day celebration in April 2012 where the turbine was celebrated along with the Town's commitment to being a green community.
